Her Story
Her Story
Kristen grew up in Dubuque, IA. As a child she enjoyed reading, baking, spending time at her grandmother's house, and became a long-distance runner at a young age. She attended the University of Iowa for undergrad, studying Integrative Physiology, French, and Global Health. She then attended Dartmouth Medical School, earning her MD in 2017. She took a "break" during medical school to attend Harvard TH Chan School of Public Health from 2016-2017 earning her Masters in Public Health.
She began her surgical training at Mayo Clinic Arizona in June 2017, where she is currently a clinical resident. She took her dedicated "lab time" from 2019-2021 to complete a Surgical Education and Simulation Research Fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH), before returning back to Mayo in Phoenix, AZ in June 2021.
She will be moving back to Boston this June to finish the last two years of her general surgery clinical residency at MGH, with anticipated graduation in June 2023. Afterwards she plans to pursue a Surgical Oncology fellowship.
When she is not busy completing clinical responsibilities or research, she enjoys running, baking, Peloton, aggressively cleaning all of her eco-friendly reusable drinkware & utensils, and spending time exploring Phoenix restaurants with Jason and co-residents.
Jim and Geralyn (Klein) Jogerst are Kristen's parents and live in Dubuque, IA. They celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary last May and are looking forward to celebrating Kristen & Jason with everyone in their hometown this fall. Jim used to work full-time at Klauer Manufacturing and now is enjoying retirement and working part-time with the Dubuque Community Schools. Geralyn (Geri) worked as a nurse for 45 years and is now also enjoying retirement, leaving lots of time available to celebrate this fall!
Pearl Klein, aka "Grandma Pearl", is Kristen's maternal grandmother. Many people told Kristen growing up that she was a spitting image of Pearl, and now Kristen hopes she can live up to that compliment. Kristen enjoyed spending most afternoons at Pearl's home growing up, where she learned her love of baking. Pearl unfortunately passed away in 2014 but she lives on strongly in our memories. We look forward to sharing "Pearl's Peonies" and many more memories with everyone in October!
Lisa Jogerst is Kristen's oldest sister and lives in Dubuque, IA, where she is a full-time pharmacy technician. When Kristen is able to visit Iowa, they enjoy exploring local shops in nearby Galena, IL and watching their favorite movie (Frozen). Kristen has enjoyed Lisa'a visits in New England and Phoenix, and she is looking forward to getting to show her around the NorthEast again soon so they can visit their favorite clam shack and rocky coasts.
Karen Robertson is Kristen's older sister and the middle of three girls. She is married to Travis and full-time mom to Tristan and Abigail, which keeps her very busy. She had a lot of practice at this job as she often functioned as Kristen's second mini mom growing up - reminding her to not forget items for school, bandaging bumps and brusies from playing outside, and driving her to school each day of high school. We are grateful that she is helping to plan our reception in October and once again is keeping us organized.
Kristen's niece and nephew: Abigail (3) and Tristan (7) are both full of energy and live in Cedar Rapids, IA. One of Kristen's favorite parts about visiting Iowa is the opportunity to spend more time with them, as they always make her laugh. They will be the minature groomsman and flower girl at the wedding reception and are looking forward to entertaining all of our guests in October.
